We hope you will come along and join us in looking forward to and the celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ. You, your family and friends will be most welcome to join us.  This programme of events is listed loosely chronologically so you will find our schedule of Christmas Masses towards the end of the article.

Carol Services

If you love carols, we have got you covered with 6 opportunities over the December period. A particular highlight will the Music Department’s Carols by Candlelight event on the 10th December, with

 

Monday 4th December, 6pm

Schools Singing Programme Carol Service featuring children from St Teresa's Aspley, Our Lady of Perpetual Succour, Bulwell and Holy Cross, Hucknall.

 

Sunday 10th December, 3.30pm

Carols by Candlelight, the Cathedral Carol Service featuring the Cathedral Choirs and Newark and Sherwood Concert Band. This will be followed by mulled wine and mince pies in the Cathedral Hall. A voluntary retiring collection will be taken to support the ongoing work of the Cathedral Music Department

 

Tuesday 12th December, 6pm

Schools Singing Programme Carol Service featuring children from English Martyr's, Long Eaton, St Patrick's, Wilford and Blessed Robert Widmerpool, Clifton.

 

Thursday 14th December, doors open at 7.00pm

Belters Choir 'Sing in the Cathedral' Carol Concert in aid of Emmanuel House. Tickets are £7.00 on the door and there will also be a charity raffle, mulled wines and mince pies to get you into the festive spirit.

Christmas Eve, 24th December, 5.30pm

Carols performed by the Children’s Choirs, followed by Mass at 6pm.

 

Christmas Eve, 24th December, 11.30pm

Carols and readings performed by the Cathedral Choir, followed by Midnight Mass which will be celebrated by Bishop Patrick McKinney.

 

First Vespers of Immaculate Conception

Thursday 7th December, 6.30pm

Sung Vespers with the Cathedral Choir and the Cathedral Chapter, on the eve of the Solemnity of the Diocesan Co-Patroness- Our Lady of Immaculate. Followed by mulled wine and refreshments in the Cathedral Hall.

 

Handel’s Messiah by Candlelight

Saturday 16th December, 7pm, Church of the Good Shepherd, Woodthorpe

The Cathedral Choir, orchestra and special guests will be performing Handel’s ‘Messiah’ by Candle at Good Shepherd Woodthorpe to celebrate the parish’s Diamon Jubilee. Tickets range from £5-20 and are available from the Parish Office 0115 926 8288 or [email protected] or via Eventbrite.

Parish Christmas Events

Christmas Fayre

Friday 1st December, Cathedral Hall

 

Christmas Parish Dance

Saturday 9th December, Cathedral Hall.

Tickets are £7.00 and include a glass of mulled wine, mince pie or Christmas cake and party nibbles. Contact the Cathedral Office , Gift Shop or Julie Whiley for tickets.

 

Children’s Christmas Party

Sunday 17th December, 2-5pm, Cathedral Hall

A special Christmas party for children in the parish. Tickets are priced at £5.00 per child. Only 60 tickets available, contact the Cathedral Office, Gift Shop or Julie Whiley for tickets.

 

Christmas Hamper Raffle

Sunday 17th December, 1pm, Cathedral Hall.

Win one of two large luxurious family Christmas Hampers by buying a ticket for our Parish Christmas Raffle. Tickets are £1 each and can be bought in the Cathedral Gift Shop or Office. All funds raised will support the ongoing maintenance of the Cathedral.

 

Christmas Masses

Christmas Eve Vigil Mass

Sunday 24th December, 6pm

We usually welcome lots of families to this Mass and the Cathedral’s Children’s Choir will be singing carols from 5.30pm

 

Midnight Mass

Sunday 24th December, 11,30pm

Opening with a service of readings and carols led by the Cathedral Choir at 11.30pm, this is then followed by Midnight Mass celebrated by Bishop Patrick McKinney

 

Christmas Day Masses

Monday 25th December, 8am, 10am & 11.15am

Bishop Patrick will celebrate the 10am Mass and the Cathedral Choir will be singing at the 11.15am Mass.

 

***Please note there is no evening Mass on Christmas Day
